The case study: Seamless API integration for a healthcare client

The case study: Seamless API integration for a healthcare client

The automation process covers more and more different industries and areas around the world. Today, it is difficult to imagine an industry that is not affected by automation. We can observe examples of how automation affects both global corporations and small businesses. Everyone is looking for sources to increase productivity, production efficiency, and reduce costs. In this regard, we would like to share our experience of helping skincare client organizations to move to Acumatica and robust way to process orders from physicians.

Task: consistent integration with partner API

Our client,  the company that provides wound and skincare products, approached us with a concern. They wanted to move to Acumatica and needed a robust way to process orders from physicians. They were partners with service providers taking care of insurance validations, payments, delivery tracking, and asked to find a way to implement seamless integration with the partner leveraging their API, so that information could flow between companies automatically and minimize manual steps for all involved parties.

Our suggestion to the task

FiduciaSoft suggested implementing the customization for Acumatica that would leverage standard Sales Order flow. We’ve added support for all the parts that were specific for this client (like physicians, patients, insurance information, etc.) and created an integration with their partner.

We had about six weeks to implement this solution which was a bit tight term taking into account that partner’s API was implemented at the same time and our work depended on their readiness and completion of their task.

Project timeline and resources used

As usual with Acumatica customizations solution we offered implementation by using Acumatica Framework and C#. The team for this project included:

  • Acumatica Developer
  • QA engineer
  • Solutions architect

We were also very grateful for our API contact as this person turned to be very responsive and open every time we had any questions or issues.

The project development process and main challenges

We’ve divided the implementation process into several stages:

  1. We’ve started by assessing changes needed in Sales Order flow and partner’s API.

Based on this we’ve agreed on an approach with the client. From there everything went smoothly extending Acumatica while with API we had some issues.

  1. Dev team developed functionality and passed it to QA Team to test, while in turn developing the next item on the list. While API was in the development, simultaneuosly we faced some challenges and needed to go back and check the whole process again.
  2. Any items that were found in testing had been discussed in a short daily meeting and were rotated back into development if needed. Fortunately most of the time we could switch our gears to other tasks mitigating influence to the project timeline.

At what stage is the project?

During acceptance testing, our client found a couple of places for enhancements. We know this happens oftentimes, so our estimates included a buffer for additional changes based on client feedback. Therefore we’ve managed to include those enhancements keeping original cost unchanged for the client. Overall, the project was delivered within the budget and was a resounding success, featured as a case study in online publications.
